Glossary

Haftarah (הַפְטָרָה) refers to the reading from the prophets traditionally paired with the weekly Torah portion.

Parashah (פָּרָשָׁה) means “portion” and refers to the weekly Torah reading. Each week, we read a portion of the Torah and read through the Torah in one year. We finish the previous Torah reading cycle and start the new cycle each year at Simchat Torah.

Torah (תּוֹרָה) means “instruction” or “teaching” and often refers especially to the Five Books of Moses. Psalm 119:1 reminds us that those who walk in God's Torah are blessed.
