Malachi

Malachi prophesied in Persian-era Jerusalem, perhaps a century after the temple was rebuilt. The crisis was not idolatry but apathy: blemished sacrifices, faithless marriages, withheld tithes, a priesthood going through the motions. His is the last voice of Hebrew prophecy, and it ends by promising a messenger still to come.
