Jonah
Jonah son of Amittai came from Gath-hepher in the Galilee and prophesied in the eighth century BCE, under Jeroboam II. Sent to Nineveh—Assyria's capital, Israel's enemy—he fled instead. The book is less about a fish than about a prophet who could not bear the thought of God showing mercy to the 'wrong' people.
