Judges
After Joshua's generation died, Israel had no king and no settled human leader. The book of Judges follows some three centuries of a repeating spiral—apostasy, oppression, outcry, deliverance—and the flawed, unlikely champions God raised up: Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, Samson. It ends with everyone doing what was right in their own eyes.
