Bar / Bat Mitzvah

At thirteen a boy becomes bar mitzvah, a son of the commandment; a girl becomes bat mitzvah at twelve. Nothing magical happens—the age simply arrives, and with it responsibility. He reads from the Torah, she is called to the community, and a child begins to answer for himself before God.
